Role: CBD Operational Team Leader

Lead Our Town's Mainstreet – Management & Maintenance (Whanganui)
Mainstreet Whanganui Inc. is looking for a dedicated and highly competent individual to take on the crucial, integrated role of CBD Operations Team Leader. This is a demanding and rewarding full-time position (40 hours per week).
This crucial dual role combines practical, hands-on maintenance work with operational coordination and team supervision (approximately 30% office-based, 70% field-based).
The Role in a Nutshell
You will be the key operational leader for the CBD, responsible for both strategic planning and physical execution:
- Hands-On Execution: Personally executing specialised and complex maintenance tasks, including operating the bucket truck (EWP), installing large banners, and performing essential infrastructure repairs.
- Management & Planning: Creating monthly work plans, managing staff leave, supervising the small street team, and coordinating training.
- Compliance: Preparing Traffic Management Plans (TMPs), managing all Health & Safety (H&S) paperwork, and ensuring legislative compliance.
- On-Call: Participating in an on-call roster (two weeks out of every six) to provide out-of-hours support.
Required Skills & Certification
Leadership
Proven experience in team supervision or leadership.
Ability to manage and motivate a team
Experience carrying out performance reviews and/ or disciplinary procedures if needed.
Certification
Full NZ Driver’s Licence (Manual).
First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
Traffic Management (TC/STMS) qualifications (or willingness to obtain).
Technical
Proficiency in operating a bucket truck, working at heights, and basic rope/knot tying for banner installation.
Basic mechanical skills for vehicle/machinery preventative maintenance, and or a trade skill
Administration
Strong competence in managing H&S documentation and general reporting (Microsoft Office proficiency required).
Experience in preparing formal Council reports.
